Acupuncture is a Chinese practice of piercing needles into specific areas of the body along peripheral nerves to relieve pain, induce surgical anesthesia, and for therapeutic purposes. It was developed thousand years ago in the East, particularly in China. The practice of acupuncture is already widely accepted in the West as an alternative and complementary medicine and practitioners are growing in number over time.

How acupuncture works

Stimulation of specific areas on the skin affects the functioning of certain organs of the body. Herbs that are burned are used to warm the acupuncture points and needles are sometimes stimulated with the use of small electric current. Fine needles are inserted into the acupoints located beneath the epidermis. The needles help correct the flow of energy within the body and relieve pain and restores health. It stimulates the body and mind’s own ability to heal itself.
